Anyhow, the New King design was Keilwerths most often stencilled horn - sometimes unengraved, sometimes custom engraved - but you can always tell its a. JK - Nauheim, Explores the Julius Keilwerths company history from Jan. Engraving: engraving looks good, not a relaquered horn.

The Case: Very nice German made non original case. The Mouthpiece: No Mouthpiece, ligature, or accessories are included. The Neck: original neck – numbers matching. This horn was also just serviced and regulated. Research shows this could be one of the first made New kings with the black nickel plate. If I were going to play it “for a living”, I would probably want a complete overhaul eventually, but the horn plays and performs VERY well as is right now, no leaks, great intonation top to bottom. Pad Condition: Pads are not new, but it doesn’t NEED new pads, these pads are obviously from an overhaul not too long ago. No lip damage, a little very minor finish wear. Minor wear on the body, heavier wear on the key guards and some of the keys, no major dents or dings. It has roughly 80% of the lacquered finish still in very good condition. This instrument is in very good playing condition. On 1 August 2010 they were acquired by Buffet Crampon.

Instrument Condition: The overall physical condition of this used instrument is Very Good. In March 2010, Schreiber & Keilwerth filed for bankruptcy. If you get the horn and decide you don’t like it for any reason, just send it back. These horns have a big, fat vintage Conn 6M sound with modern ergonomics. One local hero here in the Raleigh area (Rodney Marsh) famously played this model as his main horn for a large portion of his career. Several notable famous players used this horn. According to the defunct Keilwerth Forum, the baritone was custom-made model up until the H-Couf product line. Keilwerth definitely did make baritones for Selmer (in the form of the Bundy - there were no Bundy Special baritones). These horns in particular are such a great “dark horse” of a saxophone. There are very few New King baritones - of any series. It has a few scuffs on it, which is good, as that means it protected the contents inside! Serial number is #38295. I'll leave that to the buyer.Ĭomes with original case, which is in fair-to-good condition. The keys themselves have occasional areas of superficial crud built up on them, which I assume will come off with a good cleaning. NOTE: There is a second smaller piece of Lucite in the accessory compartment that I don't see a place for-it's not the same size as the main key protector. The bell seems to be perfectly in round and the Lucite winged key protector looks to be in great shape. No dents or real signs of usage that I can see.
